Let’s see about some of the highlights. There have been plenty new bumping gems to come to the light of the world. And yes, especially in the rap universe it seems like. You already know things are looking up when there’s more than one track starting with a ‘WOO’. So Brooklyn’s OG’s Smif-N-Wessun have dropped the ‘Let it Go’ single in anticipation of their upcoming album project, produced by the one and only 9th Wonder and it’s all you could possibly wish for. Woo, has it been a while! Another major ‘woo’ is Action Bronson who’s just out here livin’ his best life on the ‘White Bronco’ title single to his upcoming album. UK’s boss lady Little Simz has dropped the ‘Boss’ and ‘Offence’ singles, the latter coming with strong breakbeat energy that powered through in the video as well. Lil Wayne‘s ‘Tha Carter V’ dropped toward the end of the month and it’s already expected to debut at No.1 at Billboard. Logic’s ‘YSIV’ a.k.a. Young Sinatra IV features a track with all of the living members of the legendary Wu Tang Clan on it. Wu Tang Forever. On a more soulful R&B note, the very talented Jamaican-American singer and multi-instrumentalist Masego has dropped his highly anticipated and so very fresh and seductive debut album ‘Lady Lady’. Noname is commencing a new chapter with her gorgeous and fearless ‘Room 25’ sophomore album. Tyler the Creator has put out two dope-ass singles this month. And yes, there’s been many many beautiful loosies by the likes of Butcher Brown, Nao, Snips & Emmavie, Lophiile & Vic Mensa, Iman Omari, Elaquent, Dexter Jordan, Homeboy Sandman, Jon Bap & Anna Wise(!) and many more.
All of the above and then some is gathered in our playlist on Spotify. This playlist is updated at the beginning of each month, so you can feel free to press play, hit the link to follow along and stay up to date on our monthly selection, for there’s always more to come.)
SEPTEMBER IN THE MIX
It’s only fair to say that well-curated DJ sets play a critical role in making sense of the music that’s available out there. Finding connections between the present and the past, taking us on a journey through the known & unknown, often offering brand new perspective and inspiration. This month there have been a couple of new ones that stuck with us.

De La Soul ‘Buhloone Mindstate’ 25th Anniversary Mixtape
Believe it or not, ‘Buhloone Mindstate’, De La Soul‘s album has been released 25 years ago(!) on the 21st night of September (do you remember?). Master of the art of tribute mixtapes Chris Read has prepared a sweet celebration for you to enjoy & reminisce by the means of album cuts and delicious original samples.
Come Back To Earth
Mac Miller tragically left us on September 7th. Pittsburgh‘s own Grand Groove Radio aired 2 hours of his music as a celebration of his life the same day. Another legend gone way too soon. Rest easy, Mac.
Every month we finish off with a Special Treat, which is always something related to the given month that requires special attention. As many of you might know, September 18th marked a year since Mex One of the Unique Styles Crew, The Bboy Spot, Biggest & Baddest and The Squadron, founder of Outbreak, tragically left us. MG has cooked up this heartfelt & loving ‘Mex One Forever’ tribute track in collaboration with Pietro Royalty to celebrate his life and legacy, along with a video by Kleju packed with memories. If you decide to support the track, you can purchase it on any of the streaming platforms for 99 cents. All of the proceeds are going to Mex’s 5-year old son Daniel. Rest In Paradise Mex <3
