The sheer libraries of music streaming services can sometimes get a bit overwhelming with the amount of great music out there. So we’ve decided that this year, we’ll start to share a monthly wrap-up at the end of each month with our selection of handpicked discoveries by the ByBase team. Here, you’ll find your monthly dose of fresh grooves, whether it’s new releases by heavy-hitters of the game/new artists on the radar, or wholesome mixes/DJ sets/radio shows to keep you soundtracked up all the way through the next month.
Cruising into the new year, the first month of 2018 has flown by faster than the speed of sound and it‘s been quite special in the realm of great new music. So January, usually the quietest month of the year, has set this year off to a rocket start with some unexpected and exciting drops, twists & turns. To name a few: Parliament released the groups first new song in decades (over 38 years!), Black Eyed Peas break the silence with boom-bap; GoldLink, Craig David and Kaytranada team up on a hot new single, Evidence comes through with a dope album, Chris Dave & The Drumhedz unite with Bilal & Tweet on ‘Spread Her Wings’ slow-groove, Dilated Peoples’ very own Evidence delivers his much expected 3rd solo album… we could go on & on, so long story short: Just have a listen to our Spotify Playlist below and get them tunes in:
JANUARY IN THE MIX
The way that DJ culture has spread online allows a different means of understanding current music trends and there’s far more to the form than just stringing beats together. It’s only fair to say that the well-curated ones play a critical role in making sense of the music that’s available out there. Finding connections between the present and the past, taking us on a journey through the known & unknown, often offering a brand new perspective. This month there has been a couple that caught on with us. So let’s get to it. Enjoy. Go slow. Go fast. Get happy.
